IDM delivers its Training, Research and Consultancy mandate through three Disciplines namely Business and Information Resources Management (BIRM), Human Resource and Organisational Development (HR & OD) and Public Health (PH).
About the Institute of Development Management, Gaborone Botswana
The Institute of Development Management (IDM) is an institution with a strong local and regional presence in Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini (BLS). Since its establishment in 1974, IDM remains a relevant partner and a significant player in the education and training industry. The Institute has also made a notable contribution in the socio-economic transformation of the SADC region through its research and consultancy service offering.
IDM is a brainchild of the BLS forebears. Botswana’s founding President, Sir Seretse Khama, Lesotho’s King Moshoeshoe II and King Sobhuza II of Eswatini had a common vision to take the then three small nations from the colonial era into their sovereignty in 1966 (for Botswana and Lesotho, and 1968 for Eswatini).

- Improve the managerial knowledge and skills of persons charged with senior responsibilities for development in the public, parastatals and private sectors;
- Provide management consultancy to organisations in the public, parastatals and private sectors;
- Review and optimise organisational structures, administrative and management procedures and development policies related to social and economic needs;

About the Institute of Development Management, Francis Town Campus
IDM Francistown Satellite Campus was established in 2014 to cater for the needs of people in the Central and Northern part of Botswana. At inception, the campus had a total enrolment of thirty-five (35) all in part-time programs.
These were Certificate in Purchasing and Procurement (CIPS) twenty-four (24) and Certificate in Archives & Records Management (CARM) with eleven (11) students. Over the years the Campus has grown in leaps and bounds. The numbers of students, programmes and staff has increased as well as the number of graduates since 2014.
To date the campus has a total enrolment of three-hundred ninety-nine (399) students involved in day, evening and block release modes of deliveries.
Campus Management
The Francistown satellite campus is under the administration of Gaborone campus which is headed by Botswana Country Director, Dr Onalenna Seitio-Kgokgwe. Mr Elijah Moakofhi oversees the daily operations of the Francistown Campus as the Campus Manager.

Are Evening or Weekend Classes Available?
Weekend and or Evening Classes are available at IDM. Applications are currenly open and Closes on the 30th August.
When are IDM applications coming out?
Applications for Diploma Programmes in Human Resource and Accounting and Business Studies are currently out.
Forms may be collected at any District Administration (DAs) office Nation Wide

Is there credit transfer from one Campus to another?
This varies per program; you may visit admissions office for advise.
Can I apply more than once?
IDM has a flexible admission process that allows prospective students to apply and change Programmes according to set minimum requirements and application deadlines.
Is there student accommodation at IDM?
Botswana Campus:
Accommodation on campuses is available but limited, hence given on first come first serve basis. Students are advised to apply for accomodation immediately after being admitted at IDM.
Does IDM offer orientation Sessions?
IDM offers orientation sessions for all the new students at the beginning of the academic year. Orientation sessions are held a week before the start of the academic classes.
What student organisations are available at IDM?
IDM offers a perfect environment for personal and professional development as envisioned by our “Growing Great Minds” mantra. The known student bodies include but not limited to Student Representative Council (SRC), Student Christian Movement, Scripture Union, Sports Organizations, and Debate Club among others which varies per campus.
Does IDM offer scholarships?
IDM does not offer scholarship, In Botswana applicants seeking funding should contact the Department of Tertiary Education Financing and banks. In Lesotho the Ministry of Development Planning funds CIPS programmes for civil servants.
In Eswatini government does not offer scholarships but students can contact the Kings office, Tibiyo, banks and other institutions for financial assistance.
Are IDM courses accredited?
ALL IDM courses are accredited by BQA. Lesotho and Eswatini campuses are currently in the process of accreditation with their local reguatory bodies.

When is the application deadline?
IDM has two enrollment cycles per year, January and July and the application deadlines for the enrolments are 30 November and 31 May respectively.
