University of Botswana (UB) Admission Guide
Application for undergraduate admission
Please be informed that the University of Botswana undergraduate study programmes are all registered with the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA).
Former undergraduate students, who have been away from the University of Botswana for a period less than 10 semesters (five academic years), are invited to apply in order to enrol. This includes former students who previously withdrew with/without due notice; failed and discontinued/excluded; enrolment terminated, and have been away from the University for at least one semester.
Online Application:
University of Botswana has an online application system whereby prospective applicants can apply online wherever they are. All prospective applicants are therefore expected to make their applications online through the “STUDY” link on the University of Botswana website: www.ub.bw.
Prospective applicants may use any Internet facility available to them to apply. A guide in the form of a booklet, entitled “ONLINE APPLICATION: A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE”, on how to complete an application online is provided here.

Applicants with Disability:
The University of Botswana (UB) welcomes applicants with disability and considers their applications on academic merit like all other applicants. All applicants are expected to state whether they have any disability or not when they apply so that the University’s Disability Support Services Unit can contact them to understand the nature of their disability.

Submission of Applications:
Prospective applicants are to submit their applications mainly online and may use any Internet facility available to them to submit their applications.
Application Fee
Prospective applicants are encouraged to pay their Application Fee online through the link https://www.ub.bw/ubpayments or at the Banks and should write their full names and IDs as a reference on the deposit slip.
Changes:
Applicants may make changes to their study choices through a letter to Undergraduate Admissions Office.
Admission Processing:
Applicants who meet the set programme entry requirements will be admitted based on academic merit depending on the availability of space. Meeting the minimum entry requirements, therefore, does not guarantee admission.

Admission Requirments of the University of Botswana (UB)
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a. The general minimum ENTRY requirements to the University shall be the Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) / equivalent qualification with at least six subjects NOT below a grade of E.
b. For all programmes, English Language shall be one of the qualifying subjects.
c. English Language must at least be a minimum of grade C for non-science degree programmes and at least a minimum of grade D for science-based programmes.
d. For Degree programmes, at least five subjects shall be at a minimum of grade C obtained at one or two examination sittings.
e. For Diploma and Certificate programmes, at least a minimum of three grades of C with a minimum of grade E in English Language shall be required. Five subjects may be considered if the minimum cut-off point based on six subjects is met.
f. The minimum entry BGCSE points shall be 34 points for all undergraduate Degree and 30 points for Diploma and Certificate programmes.
g. The stipulated length of relevant work experience, where required, must have been met at the time of submitting the application.
h. Any additional and/or special ENTRY requirements shall be specified under the programme offerings.
i. Applicants shall be considered only for the study programmes they have selected.
j. When applying for a programme that is offered by both full-time and distance learning mode, indicate whether the application is for full-time or distance learning, otherwise if not indicated it will be assumed the application is for a full-time programme.
k. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission will depend on the availability of space and the competitive strength of each applicant’s grades.
l. Applicants may make changes to their programme choices. Such changes should be communicated in writing to the undergraduate admissions office.
m. Applicants with BGCSE/equivalent with a minimum of grade E in English Language may be considered for admission into Bachelors Degree programmes.
Graduate Application Guide
How to apply to the University of Botswana (UB) as a Graduate students
Applications for MPhil and PhD programmes are continuous. Prospective MPhil/PhD applicants can make their application using the guide below
Before Applying
Make sure the following documents are readily available
- Copy of Application fee receipt
(Prospective applicants are encouraged to pay their Application Fee online (https://www.ub.bw/ubpayments) or at the Banks - Certified copy of Degree Certificate (s)
- Certified Copy of Transcript
- Two copies of completed Professional/Academic References
- Certified copy of National Identity Card (Omang for citizens) and Passport for international applicants
- Personal Statement of Intent for Masters and Proposal/Research Plan for MPhil/PhD
- A copy of the current practicing certificate by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana or the country of origin.
- Copy of proof of change of surname (where applicable)
N.B. All former UB students who have changed their surnames should use surnames they used while they were students at UB so that the system will easily map their student ID to their surname and to their previous record. The new surname could be captured through SGS offices once the applicant has been admitted.

Each applicant can submit two applications. Each application should have its own separate application fee, or else one of them will be rejected.
Tracking your Application
- Once you have applied and have received the acknowledgement letter, you may use the login details on such a letter to track the process of your application.
Making Changes
- Applicants may make changes to their application any time before the closing date for applications, but that can only be through the School of Graduate Studies Admissions Office.

Applications will be processed to determine eligibility, the outcome of which will be communicated to the applicants accordingly.
