What is Human Resource?
Human resources is the set of people who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector, industry, or economy. A narrower concept is human capital, the knowledge and skills which the individuals command. Similar terms include manpower, labor, personnel, associates or simply: people.
Overview
The major in Human Resource Management is designed to develop skills in the management functions of strategic and human resource planning, compensation, recruitment, training and development, career planning, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, and collective bargaining.
Human Resource Management is a multidisciplinary subject. It includes the study of management, psychology, communication, economics and sociology. It also deals with building team spirit and team work. It is a continuous process.
Managing personnel and client relations, for instance, is an essential skill that you’ll pick up during the course. And this is one of those HR aspects that you can apply to any job role. Other valuable skills you’ll learn will include leadership, management, organisation, multitasking, reporting, communication, etc.
To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 24. A score of 21 is required for the National Diploma (Extended Curriculum). Assessment procedures: Applicants with a final APS of 24 and more will be admitted to the programme.
The Human Resource Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.
Rationale for the Programme
The Diploma in Human Resource Management was developed in response to identified individual and business needs for the development of a sustainable economic growth as per national aspirations. The programme is intended to provide learners with practical work related skills in the area of management of human resources, which will make them useful to themselves and the business sector of the society. The structure of the Diploma was further informed by tapping on comparable programmes offered at similar regional and international institutions. The programme is offered through open and distance learning mode, thus making it more accessible and less constrained by geographical and other factors. Input by various stakeholders was taken into account to enrich and diversify the content coverage of the programme.
