Purpose of the Role

The role of the Technical Coach is to focus on the Maintenance Coordinators and Artisans. The purpose of the role is coaching. The aim is to increase the capacity and capability of the target groups through coaching and sharing own tasks.experience and know-how. The incumbent replicates best practices, guides the coaches and influences their day-to-day.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts Technical coaching at operations to:
  • Identifies engineering and maintenance elements that need improvement
  • Works together with Maintenance Engineers and Group Asset Management to define mini programmes to address and close gaps towards excellence
  • Plays a support role to Maintenance Coordinators; enable Maintenance Coordinators to coach subordinates (artisans)
  • Follows coaching process of PACDA (Preparation, Appreciation, Co-create, Design, Achieve)
  • Continuously maintains existing procedures, processes and internal systems making recommendations in order to improve maintenance effectiveness, sectional projects, time constraints and resource availability
  • Contributes to team cohesion and personal effectiveness by;
  • Applies structured methodologies, such as root cause analysis and statistical analysis, to investigate risks and opportunities to create effective Engineering solutions
  • Adopts a systematic approach to problem-solving, drawing on engineering knowledge and appropriate sources of information, to test assumptions and generate viable options
  • Solves technical and operational issues in cooperation with relevant stakeholders
  • Implements the most effective solutions to drive efficiencies
  • (EC&I) – Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering. Applies professional knowledge of electrical engineering, including control and instrumentation and software to produce safe, fit for purpose and effective electrical and electronic systems
  • Translates knowledge into meaningful input to projects and operations to enhance business performance
  • Holds appropriate qualifications and meets country-specific legal requirements and certification
  • Applies theoretical knowledge of electrical engineering and relevant tools and techniques to support operations and projects
  • Applies professional knowledge of mechanical engineering including thermodynamics, mechanics and structural analysis to design, maintain and enhance fit for purpose and effective mechanical systems
  • Understands the principles of mechanical engineering and applies these to deliver effective technical solutions to operations
  • Applies professional knowledge of civil engineering, including infrastructure, structural engineering, water and waste management and mine residue management (i.e. Tailings and waste rock)
  • Translates knowledge of environmental, geotechnical, structural and transportation engineering into meaningful input that supports decision making and enhances the potential of projects and operations
  • Understands the principles of civil engineering and the relevant application of tools and techniques to support operations and projects
  • Drives the effective management of assets including machinery, mobile equipment and infrastructure, in accordance with the relevant codes of practice and Group Technical standards, to achieve maximum value and competitive advantage for Debswana
  • Applies and embeds asset management, through monitoring, maintaining and upgrading assets, to optimise efficiency, availability and reliability
  • Optimises performance levels of assets through actively monitoring their operation and creating solutions to encourage sustainable use
  • Translates in depth understanding of the mining environment, including processes, challenges and working culture, to identify opportunities where engineering solutions can enhance business performance
  • Engages cross-functional teams to promote the role of engineering and to share best practice leading to sustainable, commercial decisions making in accordance with Group Technical Standards
  • Optimises productivity and quality targets through utilising Engineering knowledge and co-operating with multi- disciplinary teams highlighting areas of improvement
  • Drives the delivery of engineering solutions in projects and operations through demonstrating project management skills and active resource management, including effective control of budgets, deliverables, staff and contracts
  • Proactively manages interdependencies and conflicting priorities to generate maximum value and minimise risk to the company
  • Understands Group Technical Standards
  • Manages, monitors and drives project activities within a specific project or operation
  • Proactively escalates risks and proposes mitigating actions

Education

  • National Craft Certificate (NCC)

Experience

8 years post apprenticeship with 4 years as foreman/maintenance coordinator

Prior experience as General Engineering Supervisor
