Purpose of the Role

To provide strategic leadership for the Finance Department, translating Corporate strategy and statutory requirements to ensure optimal functioning of the operation.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Interprets operational requirements and integrates with discipline base financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives
  • Responsible for, approves and monitors the utilisation of allocated funds to enable the attainment of departmental goals and objectives
  • Provides input towards the development of the Mine-wide Strategic Business Plan (SBP) in line with the long-term corporate strategy
  • Formulates the department’s medium and long term strategic plan to meet the organisational business objectives
  • Identifies, develops and institutionalizes organizational capabilities that will enable sustainable competitive advantage
  • Interprets and integrates financial needs across the operation to develop the financial framework aligned to the attainment of organizational/business units objectives /business plan
  • Manages the operation’s Financial and Accounting strategy to facilitate optimal functioning of and alignment to Debswana Operations and Strategy
  • Reviews and approves Policies and Procedures developed within the Department to ensure a sound internal control environment
  • Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance
  • Facilitates the final decision making process at Senior Management Level by interpreting and integrating information with organizational needs and operational strategic objectives
  • Facilitates effective cash flow management to ensure the sufficient funds to meet the current needs of the organization
  • Directs the implementation of financial systems and processes to optimize accountability, effectiveness and efficiency’.e.g. IAS GAAP/Legislation
  • Initiates, monitors and controls short term sectional projects to ensure attainment of desired results
  • Reviews and approves Year End Financial Reports
  • Supports the service management framework for Finance and ensure standardization of services delivered to the business
  • Develops processes, measures and procedures to ensure world class quality Finance service delivery
  • Develops financial management mechanisms that minimize business risks
  • Advises on financial best practice principles and parameters supporting the strategic business plan
  • Manages subordinates’ key effectiveness areas by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary
  • Directs departmental employees to achieve individual and team objectives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building)
  • Provides the framework for application of knowledge management principles to ensure effective knowledge capture, exchange and adaptation
  • Provides the framework for identification and implementation of creative and innovative ideas and processes to ensure continuous business improvement
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners for achievement of business objectives

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for and manages the overall departmental safety, health and environmental programme in line with operational strategy and objectives

Education

  • Bachelors Degree with Honours in FCCA/FCMA or Equivalent

Experience

10 years post graduate experience, with 5 years managing a full Finance function
